    • How Christian-Right Activists Got Anti-Trans Initiatives on Colorado’s Ballot
      • Last week, a set of anti-trans initiatives was approved for Colorado’s 2026 ballot. The Colorado Times Recorder has been tracking these initiatives, and the anti-LGBTQ activist group Protect Kids Colorado that has pushed them with help from conservative politicians and religious ministries, for over two years. Here’s all the news you might have missed. 
    • Colorado Springs Charter School Drops Creationism From Science Lesson After Parent Complaint
      • James Irwin Charter Middle School in Colorado Springs recently faced scrutiny over a proposed science lesson that included creationism. Concerns were initially raised by a parent, which led to the involvement of the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an advocacy group focused on maintaining the separation of church and state in public institutions.

      • “A concerned parent reports that James Irwin Charter Middle School is introducing creationism in its 8th grade science curriculum,” read the March 5 letter to Rob Daugherty, CEO of James Irwin Charter schools, which consists of six schools on four different campuses in Colorado Springs. “Per an email sent to parents by Donna Wagner, the ‘Science Lead’ at James Irwin Charter Middle School (JICMS): ‘During eighth grade year in our Evolution Unit, per the guidelines in the charter of our school, we teach Intelligent Design and evolution. We present a creationist theory and an evolutionist theory regarding natural selection, adaptation, and evolution.’”

      • Therefore, we oppose any group that would seek to merge with government in order to establish one religion as the United States’ national religion. This apparently is the goal of Christian Nationalism and their Pueblo entity Forging Pueblo as published in newspapers and posted on websites.*
    • Suit challenges Colorado’s ban on public funds for religion
      • The plaintiffs in the lawsuit, filed Friday in a U.S. District Court against the Colorado State Board of Education, are Education ReEnvisioned BOCES ( Board of Cooperative Education Services), an organization authorized by the state to establish contract schools and provide funding to schools and programs, and Riverstone Academy, a tuition-free Christian public school in Pueblo.

      • Leaders of Riverstone Academy, which backers have called Colorado’s “first public Christian school,” won’t reveal where the school has been located since its original building was closed in late January over health and safety concerns.
    • As Christian-Right Activists Push Anti-Trans Ballot Measures, Their Extreme Rhetoric is Ramping Up | CTR
      • To most people, the word ‘plague’ conjures images of widespread infectious disease and death. It’s also the word that former GOP lawmaker Kevin Lundberg used to describe the transgender rights movement in Colorado, as his organization Protect Kids Colorado seeks enough petition signatures to put anti-trans initiatives on the 2026 ballot.
    • Colorado Activists Use School Choice to Promote Religious Education | CTR
      • The largest, best-organized homeschool group in Colorado is Christian Home Educators of Colorado, an organization that to this day (as of February 2) remains affiliated with a preacher who called for the death penalty for homosexuality, and that on its web site affirms its commitment to young-earth Creationism. To put the point mildly, CHEC does not reflect the beliefs even of many religious homeschoolers, much less of secular homeschoolers.
